Under section 9(g) of the Education Act 1998, all schools are under a duty to "ensure that parents of a student, or in the case of a student who has reached the age of 18 years, the student, have access in the prescribed manner to records kept by that school relating to the progress of that student in his / her education".
Due to the introduction of the GDPR in MAY 2028, our KWETB GDPR Date Protection Policy, section 2.1, now states "Pursuant to section 9(g) of the Education Act 1998, we will communicate all matters related to a student's progress with her / her parent / guardian until such time that he / she attains 18 years of age".
Complying with GDPR, once the student reaches the age of 18, the school is legally obliged to share their personal data with him / her only.
Please read the letter below carefully to ensure that you are fully aware of the implications of GDPR for you and your child (over 18).
