By TY Students on 30/09/2015

With the new school year back in full swing, Coláiste Lorcáin's Tys are back in action. On the seventh of September we had our first outing. Three teachers from the P.E. department brought us into Carlow for Dragon boating. Dragon boating is a team rowing activity which, in our case, consisted of sixteen people per team. One person is in charge of steering the boat, another person is the drummer whose job is to keep the rowers synchronized while the last fourteen paddle.

By TY Students on 30/09/2015

Bags had been packed, ready to go from the previous night. Rubber boots at the ready in anticipation of the muddy fields that awaited us. Once we all gathered outside the school, we began our trip to the National Ploughing Championship. Excitement was brewing as people began to wonder what stalls they would visit and what free items they could get their hands on at the much anticipated event. Once we arrived, lines may have been long, but spirits were high as we all set off in our groups for the day's adventure.

TY History Trip

By TY Students on 17/05/2015

On Thursday the 26th of March Transition Years, along with Ms McFarland and Ms Fox went on a history trip. Our first stop was the Athy Heritage Museum where we found out about The Gordon Bennet Road Race, the 1798 Rebellion, WW1 and Ernest Shackle ton. I enjoyed seeing how these events affected Athy and the surrounding areas. Following a stop for lunch at White-water we headed to the Curragh of Kildare. After a quick kick about we were given a tour of the Curragh Camp museum. There was plenty to see here the highlight being one of the armed Rolls Royce cars Michael Collins travelled in. This was a most interesting trip and we all learned a great deal, not only about Ireland, but also about our local community.
